History of the UFU

The Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (UFU), located in Uberlândia, has its origins in the mid-20th century, when higher education in the region was still fragmented across isolated faculties. During the 1950s and 1960s, local initiatives led to the creation of independent schools, such as the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Engineering, and Faculty of Economics, which aimed to meet the growing demand for professional training in the Triângulo Mineiro region.

The process of unification began in the late 1960s, reflecting broader national policies to expand and modernize higher education in Brazil. In 1969, these separate institutions were integrated to form the University of Uberlândia.
